Salem Lutheran Church

Middle School (7th-8th Grade)

Confirmation Program

Salem's confirmation is a two-year program for 7th-8th grade students covering the Old Testament and New Testament, as well as Luther's Small Catechism. Learning sessions include both a large and small group environment, giving students an opportunity to build connections with peers, adults, and God. Confirmation students meet on Wednesday evenings from 6:30 p.m to 7:50 p.m. beginning in September and running through May. Social events, community service, a fall retreat, and summer confirmation camp are also included in the program! Three times a year confirmands and their parents gather with other local confirmation programs through KCLYC (Kansas City Lutheran Youth Coalition) to focus on relevant issues facing our young people.

Middle School Sunday Morning
Middle school youth gather each Sunday (September-May) for breakfast, highs & lows, and faith conversation! Breakfast begins at 9:15 a.m. in the youth room (church basement). At 9:30 a.m. they will head into the junior high room for some highs & lows, followed by open discussion on relevant faith issues. Each year we are ask families to sign up to supply breakfast each week. Grab a friend and join the fun!

KCLYC began as a grassroots effort in 2010 when three local Lutheran churches partnered on a senior high mission trip down to Florida. The Holy Spirit was truly present as youth from each of the churches were bonding and building connections with each other and those they were called to serve. Shortly after our mission trip experience the youth requested we continue gathering as a group throughout the year. We started gathering monthly for fellowship, education, and service. We have continued to include area congregations in this grass roots collaboration.
