Find Peace and Rejoice in God

For something different, I thought I would write about the first and second readings for this Sunday instead of the Gospel reading. Both readings speak of rejoicing in God and the peace of God.
Rejoicing in God
In the first reading (Isaiah 25:1-9), it talks about exalting and praising God. “O Lord, you are my God; I will exalt you; I will praise your name, for you have done wonderful things, plans formed of old, faithful and sure.” (Isaiah 25:1) It goes on to say some of the great things God has done — creating shelter and providing a refuge for those in need.
In the second reading (Philippians 4:1-9), it quotes the familiar scripture, “Rejoice
in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice.” (Philippians 4:4) This is especially meaningful coming from Paul, who could still rejoice after all of the suffering he had been through.
Peace of God
The first reading concludes with a time of ultimate peace (and also mentions rejoicing again). “See, this is our God; we have waited for him, so that he might save us. This is the Lord for whom we have waited; let us be glad and rejoice in his salvation.” (Isaiah 25:9)
In the second reading, it talks about not being anxious but praying to God, and His peace will “guard your hearts and your minds.” (Philippians 4:7) It also says, “As for the things that you have learned and received and heard and noticed in me, do them, and the God of peace will be with you.” (Philippians 4:9)
It is important to rejoice in God and experience his peace even when we are going through tough times. If we put our trust and faith in God, He will see us through.
