Salem’s Village

One of my favorite things to do as we celebrate confirmands and graduates is to look back on pictures of our Salem kids growing up together in church. I’ve written many times from my perspective of being an Army kid, which meant I only spent a few years in each place we lived. I didn’t have this amazing experience of having friends who walk together throughout their faith journeys, and it's one of the things I cherish most about Salem.
This year’s confirmation class are all the youngest in their families, and have watched their older siblings grow in their faith together at Salem. They have learned from four encouraging pastors, worshiped in four different spaces, and danced in Christmas programs and worship services together since kindergarten. They joyfully learn from many teachers in Sunday school, bond and serve in youth group, challenge and encourage each other at Rainbow Trail Lutheran Camp, and lead in worship. I have personally witnessed their fierce friendship through the years, and have loved being one of the parents in our little village as we’ve raised our strong girls together. Thank goodness we all had each other!!
I have been your worship and music director for over 15 years, and this is my stewardship testimonial: I feel so blessed that Salem has been the place where all three of my children have learned what it means to be a Christian. Thank you for being their family and encouraging them every step of the way.
