A Legacy of Love

I sang for my mom’s best friend’s celebration of life last week. She was an amazing woman who loved God and her family fiercely. The day before she died, she went to church with mom, and then spent the afternoon loving and caring for others at a picnic celebrating Pride Month. She wore a shirt she bought specifically for the event that said “Be You” with a rainbow, and there are many pictures of her beautiful smile as she encouraged everyone she encountered.
One of the many projects she created with her daughter and granddaughter is a book titled A Letter to God that translates the Lord’s Prayer into words that kids can relate to. This Sunday Jesus will teach us how to pray, so I’d like to share this lovely prayer written by Carol Beall and her granddaughter Aubri Anderson:
Dear God, You are our Father who watches us from Heaven, let us praise and honor Your name.
Help us to make Earth more like Heaven.
Help us do what You want us to do even though it may not be what we want to do.
Help us every day to find the things You give us to help us love You more.
Please excuse us for doing things that don’t make You happy, and help us to excuse others when they do something that makes us sad or hurts our feelings.
Help us to stay off the dark path even when it looks beautiful and interesting, and keep us on the path of light that leads to You.
Because the whole world belongs to You, You have the power to help us to be more like You, and we want to praise Your name always.
Thank You God, our Heavenly Father. Amen.
