Soak up the Summer

Summer is almost over. School started a couple of weeks ago, and before you know it there will be a chill in the air. It is time to get all of those things on your summer “bucket list” done before you run out of time.

Kids started a normal school year for the first time since 2019. Masks are optional, classes are normal schedule, and activities are back in full swing.

A few weeks before school started, when my daughter, who just started her sophomore year, asked me questions about things like when yearbooks will arrive, when schedules will be out, etc., I didn’t have an answer. We have never had a “normal” high school year.

My son started high school in 2019. That year started out to be a regular school year, but we all remember how it came to an abrupt end just before spring break was supposed to start. Kids were told to clean out their lockers “just in case,” school was over for the year after only three quarters, and in-person school became a distant memory. We didn’t return to school full-time for many months after that.

So head to the neighborhood pool … take a last-minute vacation … soak up the sun as you sit on your deck with a cool drink. Olathe schools have a 4½ day weekend, and we intend to enjoy every minute of it!
