Temptations

It’s March and 70 degrees out. Wow! And the start of the Lenten season. Each year my family lets my mom know what we are going to give up for Lent. Some drop off, and maybe some of the grandchildren will get involved. And when Easter Sunday is here we talk about it as a family.

My mother knows we will all get tempted at one point or another, but does this for us to think about what we do on a day-to-day basis, to think about what tempts us each day and to focus on Jesus during this time and what he did for all of us.

Jesus allowed himself to be led into the wilderness to do what we cannot do on our own. And Jesus faced the temptations that we cannot resist on our own. He did this to give us hope and strength as we face the temptations that come our way.

We all get tempted in some way or another — greed, lust, envy, the urge to be number one, and a whole list of other self-serving actions; I see this every day. Times have changed a lot for all of us in one way or another. Lent, therefore, is a time for us to mindfully face our sins and ask for forgiveness daily.

The good news is that God is always with us and is always at our side. We will never be alone each and every day. God forgives us no matter what temptations come our way. Make this Lenten season a time for us to experience again the hope and grace that God gives to each one of us.
