Hello, Salem!

My name is Laura Cooper, and I am the new office administrator at Salem Lutheran Church. I have 20 years of experience working in a church environment. I spent all those years at Church of the Resurrection in Leawood, Kansas. I worked in the music ministry and handled administrative duties for 400 participants. I also worked on COR’s Christmas program, handling ticketing, budgeting, and accounting. I enjoy working in a church environment, as I love working with people.

I was born and raised in Florida. I ended up living in Kansas City, as my husband was born and raised here. We raised two daughters, and we have one grandchild. I have lived in this area for 38 years, and I love it here! I wouldn’t leave the change of seasons and the friendly people for anything. The Midwest is my home.

When I decided to leave COR, I felt God calling me to a different place. The church was going through a large reorganization, and it seemed like a good time to make some changes. I was not sure where that was going to be yet, but I took my time in looking for a position, and one day I found the job posting for Salem. It intrigued me to be in a smaller church, possibly where I would be able to expand my knowledge of how a church operates from all different angles. In the past I was mainly involved in music, but this would be the whole church. I also felt that I could share the knowledge that I acquired at COR with Salem.

I feel comfortable here already. It feels right. I think this is where I am meant to be. I think it is important to listen to God’s little hints. Sometimes I don’t, and usually I regret it. This time I listened, and I am happy that I did.
