Taking Faith Home

For those who want to save their life will lose it, and those who lose their life for my sake, and for the sake of the gospel, will save it.
Mark 8:35 (NRSV)

In the interims I have served I have used the resource “Taking Faith Home” from Milestone Ministries. After we used the Advent and Christmas cards and they were well-received, I thought this might be a helpful resource for people. It begins with caring conversations to discuss in your home, small group, or use for personal reflections. The devotions section focuses on the gospel and a prayer. Then there is a suggestion of a service project — this week suggested making pretzels (in the Lenten packets we handed out on Sunday we included a recipe!). Then it closes with a ritual and tradition. On the other side are the daily bible readings, scripture verses for the week, and prayers to use during the week.

I know that several of you have other resources that you use for daily devotions, but I have found that having a variety of resources helps me in my spiritual practices. My sister and I have started the practice when the pandemic began to read to each other each morning using “The Word in Season.” Some of you are joining Lynn Ross and myself in the Zoom meeting using the devotional book “Lent in Plain Sight: A Devotion through Ten Objects.” My advice for people who are wanting to strengthen their faith journey is to make the time to read scripture, to talk to others, and to pray — to get in the habit, if only for 5 minutes.

Almighty God, help us to remember that it is giving that we receive
and in caring for others that we experience
the joy of following Jesus,
our Savior and Lord.
Remember that you are God’s, and to God you shall return. Amen
