What a Year It Has Been

Teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts to wisdom.
Psalm 90:12

What a year it has been — 2020 has solidified itself as a year of events. Some years pass by with ease, while others seem to have us count down to the end of the year.

This psalm has been on my mind every single time bad news or good news has unveiled itself this year. I believe this verse is not suggesting that we keep a track on each and every second, hour, day, and month that we are blessed to live, but rather to recognize the blessing that God has allowed our very presence. The psalmist recognizes that we should thank God for every moment — good and bad.

I like the way the The Living Bible (TLB) sets this verse down, “Teach us to number our days and recognize how few they are; help us to spend them as we should.”

As we end 2020 (thank God!) let us continue with the same prayer for 2021. “Lord, keep me day by day, in a pure and perfect way. I want to live, I want to live on in a building not made by hand.” (from the hymn “Lord Keep Me Day By Day”)

Be blessed.
