Thanks for Being Generous

As I write this article, the temperature outside is 50 degrees. It is a chilly morning, and it makes me think of fall. If this were a normal church year, we would be preparing for Sunday school to start, and gearing up for our fall programs of hayrides, chili cook-offs, and other fall activities. But 2020 is not a normal year, and we will need to be creative in how we can stay connected.

Although it has been a challenging year for the members of Salem, people have stepped up and have been generous with their time. Yes, we have struggled financially, but in light of what is going on, I feel like we are doing okay. Sometimes people can give through their time and talents — cleaning, moving items out of the buildings, making arrangements for items to be sold or donated to others, sorting through files and materials, deciding what to keep and what to let go. People’s energy to help with this move and setting up at Central Baptist Theological Seminary is priceless. As interim pastor, I am grateful for all the time, talents, and gifts that have been shared. People have been generous!

So, I am planning on doing a sermon series on generosity:

  • September 20 — “What does generosity look like in these days?”
  • September 27 — “How do we keep our promises?”
  • October 4 — “What’s in it not just for me, but for all?”
  • October 11 — “Are we ready for the great banquet?”

It is a different kind of year this fall, but God is always faithful and calls us to be faithful in return. Keep up the faith, my siblings in Christ!

Peace,
Pastor Cynthia Schnaath
