We Are One

There aren’t many songs that we sing in both the traditional and contemporary services, but we will this Sunday, “They’ll Know We Are Christians by Our Love” by Peter Scholtes:

We are one in the Spirit, we are one in the Lord, and we pray that all unity will one day be restored.

Salem is a Reconciling in Christ congregation. Our mission genuinely includes all people, and it’s one of the many reasons I am so proud to be a part of our worship and outreach to all in our community.

We will walk with each other, we will walk hand in hand, and together we’ll spread the news that God is in our land.

Salem is a family. We share our lives, sorrows, joys, and fears. We love every child and we pray for each other. We check in, hug, call, write, feed, and love. We walk in our faith together, hand in hand.

We will work with each other, we will work side by side, and we’ll guard each one’s dignity and save each one’s pride.

Salem reaches out. We provide meals to 35-45 families in our neighborhood every week. They receive food, books, friendship, and caring. We go out into the community and work together to help others.

And they’ll know we are Christians by our love.

We, the members of Salem Lutheran Church, affirm the belief that we are all created in God’s image and are called to love one another as God loves us. We are a community that welcomes people of all ages, cultures, economic statuses, ethnic backgrounds, family blends, gender identities, physical and mental abilities, races, and sexual orientations. We seek to provide a safe and caring community where all people can grow in their faith. We encourage you to join us as we develop relationships with each other and discover the depth of God’s love for us all.

In Christ's love,
Heather Lewis
Director of Music and Worship
