We Are All Called to Enrich Others

“I give thanks to my God always for you because of the grace of God that has been given you in Christ Jesus, for in every way you have been enriched in him, in speech and knowledge of every kind.”

— 1 Corinthians 1:4

There have been so many times in my ministry as a parish pastor that people have given thanks to me for just showing up. Sometimes there are no words that I can say, just a hug to offer and tears to shed with them and sit by their side. I think I’m just doing my job, but then again, my job is to minister to those in need in a way that is meaningful to a person’s life. Yet, there are so many lay people who can do just that. They know just the right time to make a phone call to a person who is having a difficult day, send off an email with a word of encouragement that helps someone make a decision that is a better choice, or are that person who arrives at the hospital just when that person is so longing for a prayer of comfort.

The word enrich means to improve or enhance a person’s quality of life. Each day I believe God sets before us opportunities to enrich another’s life — in small ways and bigger ways. We all have those opportunities. And for that I give thanks to our God, for because of you the grace of God has been given all of us in Christ Jesus. Amen.

Peace,
Pastor Cynthia Schnaath
