Persistence is Key

Don't give up the fight. Stay the course. Nothing worth doing is easy. There are so many motivational quotes about being persistent — I suppose it's human nature to want to give up instead of pushing through. Our scripture this week tells the parable of a widow who bothers a judge nonstop until he grants her justice. If your family, friends, or career involves advocating for a person or cause, you can understand her persistence.

Think about a time you decided to continue with a plan, even when it got hard: are you glad you did? Are you still reaping benefits from your decision? Now think about a time you gave up on something important to you: looking back, are you glad you let it go? Do you have regrets?

My career revolves around things people are made to do as children. I frequently hear, "I wish I hadn't quit piano lessons" and "I miss having a church family." Yet, trying to start over as adults is hard. Your expectations are higher, there isn't time to practice, and it's easier to sleep in on Sunday mornings.

I realize I'm biased and may be preaching to the choir, but think about the joy that comes from creating music, being with people who care about you, and working together to spread God's love! Perhaps persistence is key to a joy-filled life.
