Which Way Will the Leaves Blow?

School has started and Labor Day is fast approaching. Where has the summer gone? It has been quite an eventful one for Salem!

As I picture fall, I see a dirt path covered in leaves that can head in a multitude of directions when a sudden gust of wind approaches. Which way will the leaves blow?

There is so much opportunity for Salem now — let’s get to know our Salem family and neighbors. Dinner 4 8 is a great way to fellowship with your Salem family. Next weekend (Sept. 8) is our Day of Service, where we are encouraged to get out in the community and serve for a few hours in a variety of projects. We have an opportunity to partner with our Lenexa UMC neighbors and the community for a block party in September, and there is the Lenexa Chili Challenge in mid-October, both steps away from Salem! It is a great way to show others Salem’s caring heart and tell others all that we have to offer.

I have lived in Johnson County for a little over 12 years now. One of the things I noticed is there is a church on every block in Johnson County, sometimes two or three on every block. What makes Salem stand out, though? Is it our historic, stained glass sanctuary and organ? Is it the people? Is it what we are doing in the community?

So, as fall begins, let us pause to ponder which way we want the leaves to blow here at Salem. We have some great opportunities to make a difference in Lenexa, the Kansas City area, and beyond. Let’s make sure our leaves blow in the right direction!
