Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ:

I pray you have had a blessed week!

Spring is getting closer! While watching the weather report this morning, the meteorologist said that, beginning this weekend, a warming trend is on its way. Well, I don’t know about you, but I am ready for a warming trend. In fact, I am to the point that I really want to see the trees begin to bud and flowers begin to grow. I want my grass to start turning green, and I can’t wait to begin to plant my garden. I am ready for winter to be over and spring to begin.

But this winter has not been especially bad, has is it? We haven’t had much snow and we have had some really warm days in the midst of the cold ones, but the earth has still been dormant. I have been told by the experts that this time of rest and dormancy for the trees, shrubs, plants, and grass is good for them. I know my “lawn guy” told me winter is the time when the crabgrass and weeds die out, and if we care for the grass properly this spring, then they won’t come back. So I guess this wintertime of rest has been good.

Personally, I am now preparing for a time of rest. Yes, beginning May17, I will be going on sabbatical. I will be taking three months to refresh myself and focus on personal growth. Over the next couple of months, I will be sharing with you what I am planning to do while on sabbatical in the weekly bulletin and in other forms.

Attached is a note from our Council president, Kris Burki, explaining what a sabbatical is and sharing some of the plans for while I am gone. Please feel free to contact me with any questions you have about my upcoming sabbatical.

You know, someone asked me last week what I was looking forward to the most, and I didn’t even have to think about it. I am looking forward to worshiping with Jill and participating in worship, not as a leader. Don’t get me wrong, I love leading worship, but for a while, it will be nice to worship with my family, hear a variety of clergy preach, and observe different ways to worship our Lord and Savior.

Have a blessed week.

Shalom,

Pastor Dave
