Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ:
I pray you have had a blessed week!
As you know, over the past several years, Salem has made a very concerted effort to be missional. That is, our goal is to be active in God’s mission in the community around us so that we might be a place that is active in sharing the Gospel and offering hope to a broken world.
One of the key ways we have been doing this is by do collaborative ministry with other faith communities, and one of those communities we have partnered with is St. Mark Hope and Peace Lutheran Church, which is an ELCA congregation in Kansas City, Missouri. This congregation was on the verge of closing, but it also was a congregation that was offering an incredible ministry to people who desperately needed them, and so we now work with them in many ways to help support them. Attached is a thank-you note from their pastor, Reverend Donna Simon.
I am sharing this letter not to brag about Salem, but to point out that even though we all, at times, might wonder if we are really doing God’s work or if we are on the right track, when we get responses like this to the ministries and monies we are giving, it just confirms in so many ways that we really are doing God’s mission.
As your pastor, I am truly blessed to be in mission with you!
