Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ:
I pray you have had a blessed week.
This past Tuesday morning, I attended a breakfast meeting in Kansas City, Kansas. This meeting was actually an annual fundraiser event for a ministry called Mosaic. Mosaic is a ministry that seeks to help the intellectually challenged. When I was a kid, we called these people “retarded.” In school, these were the kids that, at best, had a separate classroom that no one else got to go into. Or, at worst, these were the kids that were sent away because no one thought they were worth anything.
In the past, I have written to you about my involvement with Mosaic, and I had actually planned to write more about Mosaic in this letter, but on Tuesday, I was given an article that was written by David deFreese, the retired Bishop from Nebraska. In his retirement, Bishop deFreese has dedicated his life to working with Mosaic. Bishop deFreese is living out his baptismal vow of serving all people, following the example of Jesus,and striving for justice and peace in all the earth.
I invite you to read Bishop deFreese’s article, which I have included in this mailing. I am so thankful Mosaic exists, and I pray we might all find ways to serve all in need, as Mosaic seeks to serve.
