Youth Ministry Team
The Salem Youth Groups strive to serve the entire congregation and is made of five different age groups. Besides these activities, the Salem Youth Groups strive to serve the entire congregation by bringing people together for events like the Women's Tea, delivering Easter baskets, Christmas Caroling with our families and many other events.
- Play Group
Play Group is a meeting place for stay-at-home parents and their children. The group meets the second and fourth Wednesdays of every month during the school year and every Wednesday and Friday during the summer. Typically, this group serves children from infants to age five, while also acting as a social outlet for parents. The members meet at each others' homes from 9-11 am during the school year and go on a myriad of field trips throughout the summer.
- The Angels
The Angels are children in grades kindergarten through second. Just started in September 2005, the group is hosted by parents and meets the third Friday of every month from 6-7:30 pm. Different activities are offered, and it is a great way to get started in youth group.
- FROGs
FROGs (Fully Rely On God) are third to sixth graders. They meet once a month for a fun activity. These might include laser tag, games, bike rides or a picnic.
- CrossTraining
CrossTraining are youths in seventh and eighth grade who are in training for Confirmation. They meet twice a month, usually on Sunday evenings. These students are included in social and service activities.
- CrossRoads
CrossRoads teens are ninth to twelfth graders who meet twice a month, usually on Sunday evenings. They meet for social activities and do a variety of service projects. These have included raking leaves, aiding the Kansas City establishment reStart, working with the Johnson County Christmas Store and doing work at Camp Tomah Shinga. This group also works at raising funds for an annual summer trip. These trips are on a three-year rotation: one year the trip will be a social, bonding one, the next year is focused on service and the third year, the students attend the National ELCA Convention. In order to pay the way, the youth hold a rummage sale, have auctions, sell various goods and usually hold a car wash.
