Salem Sunday School

New model, same great mission

Salem is moving to a rotational model for Sunday School this year. In this program, we will study Bible stories for three weeks at a time. The first week, we will have a 20-minute, all-ages opening to introduce the story, and then the age groups will break up and go to their first rotation. The second two weeks, we will have a brief, 10-minute opening time for age groups to check in with Shepherd Guides, then each group will go to two rotations each week. The rotations for each story will be five of the following: art, cooking, drama, games, music, science, and video.

We're looking for volunteers for many short-term and some longer-term commitments, so we hope you will find a spot that works for you. Here are some options:

1. Age Group Shepherd Guide. These important folks will travel with the age groups, helping them get the most out of each rotation's lesson, and also build relationships with students, checking in with them weekly. Discussion guides will be provided to Shepherd Guides to help guide conversations. No planning is needed; just show up each week and connect with some awesome kids! These volunteers will make a semester-long commitment (September through December or January through May). Of course, we would happily take a yearlong commitment, as well!

2. Rotation Leader. These volunteers will make a three-week commitment, although you are more than welcome to sign up for more than one rotation this year! These volunteers will plan lessons for a rotation (there will be one lesson for pre-K through 2nd grade and another for 3rd through 6th grade). Curriculum and supplies will be provided to rotation leaders. If this area interests you, a list of rotations and dates that are available for sign-up can be provided.

Please consider where you feel called to plug into the new Sunday School. If you would like to talk more about these roles, e-mail Lorel Brown at or give her a call at 913-251-1490.
