2011 Vacation Bible School

Jesus turned lives upside down and hearts inside out through stories that challenged people to look at themselves and others in new and unexpected ways. This week we'll be out on Main Street for an inside-out, upside-down experience learning about Jesus!

Check out the daily updates:
Monday - Gratitude
Tuesday - Compassion
Wednesday - Forgiveness
Thursday - Grace
Friday - Faithfulness

Friday, Day 5 on Main Street - Faithfulness

We had a great time tonight learning about FAITHFULNESS. Faithfulness means using what we’ve been givn to serve God every day.

In the parable of the master’s money (Luke 19:12-26), we learned that Jesus wants us to not be selfish and instead understand that God gives us wonderful gifts so that we can share them with others and use them in ways that honor God.

Please mark your calendars to be at both church services this Sunday so the kids can share the songs they have learned with the congregation. We’ll sing just after communion at the 8 am service (so plan to be there around 8:25 am) and at the start of the 9:30 am service (kids will gather in the upstairs narthex at 9:20 am).

Forgot to donate items for pantry packs this week? Salem will continue to collect them. Please feel free to donate items on Sunday or see the Salem website for more information.

Thanks for sharing your kids with us this week! We had a wonderful time.

Thanks,

Lorel

Thursday, Day 4 on Main Street - Grace

We had a great time tonight learning about GRACE. Grace is the way God loves and accepts us no matter what we do.In the parable of the warmest welcome (Luuke 15:11-32), we learned that Jesus doesn’t want punishment for us — he wants us to know God loves us so much that instead he gives us a gift: Jesus! And a forever party with him in heaven. All we have to do is come to him and accept that gift.

Thanks,

Lorel

Wednesday, Day 3 on Main Street - Forgiveness

Thanks for bringing your child to VBS at Salem! We had a great time tonight learning about forgiveness. Forgiveness means deciding to let go of the wrong things people do and the hurt feelings we can have.

In the parable of the shocking servant (Matthew 18:21-35), we learned that Jesus wants us to understand we can forgive others over and over again because God has forgiven us. We have all done wrong things, and we can all be forgiven. What a great gift!

Please mark your calendars to be at both church services this Sunday so the kids can share the songs they have learned with the congregation. We’ll sing just after communion at the 8 am service (so plan to be there around 8:25 am) and at the start of worship at the 9:30 am service. Please arrive at 9:20 am and gather in the upstairs narthex.

Thanks!

Tuesday, Day 2 on Main Street - Compassion

We had a great time tonight learning about COMPASSION. Compassion means helping others every day.

We studied the parable of the roadside rescue in Luke 10-25-27. Ask your child to tell you what they learned from Heidi Claire, Justin Time and Chef Pierre Mon Frere on Tuesday!

Please mark your calendars to be at both church services this Sunday so the kids can share the songs they have learned with the congregation. We’ll sing just after communion at the 8 am service and just before the Prayer of the Day at the 9:30 service. So you can come around 8:25 am for the early service for just the singing, or else you can leave after we sing at the 9:30 service, if you attend the 8 am service.

We’re collecting pantry pack items all week. Please let me know if you have questions.

Thanks,

Lorel

Monday, Day 1 on Main Street - Gratitude

We had a great time tonight learning about GRATITUDE. Gratitude means being thankful for the things we’ve been given, even when it’s hard.

We studied the parable of the whiny workers in Matthew 20:1-16. It’s our natural response to complain when we don’t think things are fair or we don’t get what we want. But Jesus says that God loves and cares for us, and we have so much to be thankful for, no matter what everyone else has or how disappointed we might feel.

This week we are collecting Panty Packs for Salem’s program that seeks to feed the hungry during the summer months.

Our goal is to have each child provide the supplies for one pantry pack over the course of the week. The mission of the Pantry Pack Program is to feed children and families over the summer months. We don’t want this to be a hardship for anyone, we’re just setting the goal of one pantry pack per child, and we’ll see how many we can collect! Please drop off your pantry pack items at the registration table when you bring them.

Here are the items in a Pantry Pack:

 Pantry Pack #1

Spaghetti (16 oz)
Spaghetti sauce jar, meat or meat-flavored (26 oz)
